MBC National Choral Competition: Davao Regional Finals

Last Sunday, September 2, 2012, The MBC National Choral Competition Regional Finals was held at the atrium of Abreeza Mall, Davao City. Six choral groups from different corners of Mindanao competed in the hopes of bagging the Regional Champions title and grabbing the chance to compete for the National Finals to be held in Metro Manila in December 2012. The six choral groups were divided into two categories: 3 groups for the Children's Category and 3 groups for the Open Category. Each of the group were tasked to sing three songs that comprised a liturgical/praise song, folk song, and pop/contemporary song.

Children's Category

Matina Central Elementary School Children's Choir : 2nd Runner-up

Davao City National Highschool Girls' Choir: 1st runner-up.
Voices of the South Children's Choir: Champion
The group was led by Mr. Peter Buaya, which is one of the best choir conductors in Mindanao. These kids truly stood out, especially when they sang their folk song. It was jaw-dropping! Although, Davao City National Highschool came at close second. The girls actually did great in their contemporary song, Louder by Charize Pempengco. Voices of the South Children's Choir will represent Davao City  in the Grand Finals comes December of this year.

Open Category

UM Digos Chorale: 2nd Runner-up

University of the Immaculate Conception Chorale: 1ts Runner-up
Capitol Glee Club (Cagayan de Oro): Champion
I've been a chorister for 9 years now, although I have not been active since last year to pursue greater heights. It's my first time to hear Capitol Glee Club and watch them perform. They blew me away. Their winning crown was evident throughout their three songs. They would make a good contender for the National Finals.
