Davao Life Is Here: Davao Cinematheque

I know I've wrapped up my "Davao: Life is Here" posts last week, but then I realized I wasn't able to include the newest and one of the must-see places in Davao City - the New Cinematheque Davao. So yeah, please bear with me.

Let's admit it, in a world where entertainment revolves mostly on mainstream movies, it's very difficult to find a place where you can get a doze of Indie Films. There are hundreds of great Indie Films coming from different parts of the world, but the problem is, they rarely reach the concrete walls of movie theaters, probably because of budget constraints and what not. Good thing there's Philippine Cinematheque, a vital part of the Sineng Pambansa or National Cinema Program of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), whose mission  is to "bring Filipino films to Filipinos"

Last June 29, 2012, The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) in cooperation with the City Government of Davao inaugurated the Davao Cinematheque, located at Palma Gil Street Davao City.

I had the chance to visit Davao Cinematheque during our familiarization tour. It's a 120-seater theater that showcases cinematic arts such as Filipino film classics, indie films, and acclaimed foreign films. They also offer workshops and symposiums on directing, scriptwriting, editing, cinematography, and all other aspects of filmmaking. The best thing is, you can watch these films for free.

We were not allowed to take photos of the theater, but then, you already know what a typical movie theater looks like.

Speaking of workshops, Davao Cinematheque will hold a Film Directing Workshop with Maverick Filmmaker, Tikoy Cruz. Limited slots only! For more infomation, visit http://www.fdcp.ph/.

Davao Cinematheque is located at Palma Gil Street, beside Davao Pasalubong Center and Near People's Park
