AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

In 2012, Liter of Light was awarded as the best National Flagship Project during the 2012 JCI Asia Pacific Conference held in Hong Kong in June 2012. In November 2012, it was again awarded as the Best National Flagship Project during the JCI World Congress held in Taipei, Taiwan. The project bested entries from over 100 JCI National Organizations.

LITER OF LIGHT PROJECT

In 2011, Liter of Light forged a partnership with the My Shelter Foundation headed by Iliac Diaz. My Shelter Foundation and JCIP aims to brighten up one million Filipino homes. In 2013, My Shelter Foundation aim to implement the Liter of Light Project in at least 100 cities and 10,000 households in the Philippines. This will be done through the efforts of JCI local organizations (LOs) throughout the Philippines. There are approximately 140 active JCI LOs in the Philippines.

Through the Liter of Light Project, trainings on the construction, installation, and use of the revolutionary solar light bulb are implemented. These trainings are conducted in target communities which will benefit from the low cost daytime light that the solar bottle bulbs provides. During the project implementation, recyclable materials such as scrap GI sheets and PET bottles are donated to the communities, along with other materials necessary to build and install solar bottle bulbs.

SOLAR LIGHT BULBS

The solar bottle bulbs are made by mixing filtered water with chlorine and salt. This mixture is poured to 1.5L or 2L water or soda bottles then installed using scrap GI sheet and rubber sealant. These bulbs can provide up to 55 watts and can last for 2 to 5 years.
